Climate Reality KING COUNTY - MLK Day & Environmental Lobby Day (2/6)

Today is a day to remember and celebrate the incredible legacy and teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Victory Lap for the No on 2117 Campaign!

If you didn’t hear the news, the No on I-2117 won resoundingly with 62% rejecting the initiative in WA in November. This means we keep our incredible Climate Commitment Act. This provides funding for transportation, forest management(!), electrical bill rebates, and accelerates our transition off of fossil fuels, plus more. Climate Reality was solidly part of the coalition of groups that helped defeat I-2117. Thank you to all who voted or participated otherwise. Good job us!

Besides support from Amazon, MicroSoft, & BP, along with the Seattle Times’ endorsement, here’s a link to a Seattle Times article that gave some perspective on what went well for the No campaign.

Environmental Lobby Day is Thursday November 6th in Olympia .

Washington Conservation Action is sponsoring Environmental Lobby Day in-person in Olympia again this year, on Thursday, February 6th ! There are 27 groups as part of this coalition (including Climate Reality). This event is free, but requires registration. Registration closes Friday, January 31st at 5 p.m.

Please join us in advocating for the Environmental Priorities Coalition’s four priorities for 2025. One priority this year is to: Invest in Climate Action. 62% of voters – a clear super majority – upheld the state’s program to reduce dangerous climate pollution and invest in clean air, public health, job creation, and transportation. As the state faces a large funding shortfall, we will make sure that budget writers uphold the people’s will. Climate funds should be used for their intended purpose.

Let’s keep working together.

While there’s been incredible climate progress, notably with the extraordinary Inflation Reduction Act, we know that we are still not doing enough, especially as we watch the LA fires continuing devastation. Now, we can also count on efforts to both stall & roll back recent gains. There is also a growing concern about Climate Change across the county, and while we do not have time to waste, there are effective policies that are proven to move us off of fossil fuels.
