Climate Reality KING COUNTY Newsletter - "No 2117" kickoff tonight with Gov. Inslee!
With the shock of the assassination attempt last week, to me it feels like we’re still in a moment of reflection. Amidst the strong condemnations of political violence, I appreciated the calls from both Biden and Trump on Sunday for calm and unity.
The November election is still 112 days away, but couldn’t be more consequential for addressing climate change, as well as a myriad of other issues. At this point, we don’t need to be in sprint mode. There are a number of groups and actions that will move the needle, and maybe one or more of these groups or actions will speak to you to engage with.
#1 The official kickoff for No on I-2117 is tonight, 7/16 at 5:30pm with Governor Inslee!
From the campaign….We are excited to announce that Governor Inslee is speaking at our virtual Volunteer Kick Off, July 16th from 5:30-7:00pm! Join the Governor, our field director Beth Doglio, and our coalition partners to learn how you can help defeat this initiative and protect our clean air and water, forests and farmland, jobs, and transportation investments. If you haven’t yet, please register here.
#2 Did you know that only 47% of Pro-climate voters have heard of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), but once learning about it, 97% of those same voters support it? Climate Changemakers is a climate group that has weekly calls, and the next 4 weeks will focus on outreach on this very point, including education voters on the IRA achievements. Here's the Action Plan for all your future IRA-education needs.
The group meets weekly on Monday at 5:00p. This is the magic of an Hour of Action- join them next week.
#3 Do you already know about the Environmental Voter project?
Well, it’s a group of nearly 6,000 dedicated volunteers from across the country, all focused on getting environmentalists to vote year-round in local, state, and federal elections. Donate and/or get involved and write some postcards!! What a great group to connect with to make a difference in the November election!
There are many volunteer opportunities including “Postcard Orientation” on August 1st. Click here to find out more/register.
#4) Exciting news from CCL (Citizens’ Climate Lobby)
A bipartisan group of lawmakers has just introduced the PROVE IT Act (H.R. 8957) into the U.S. House of Representatives.
The House bill is led by Rep. John Curtis (R-UT-03), and Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA-50). It has a robust list of 19 additional cosponsors, well balanced between Republicans and Democrats.
And don’t forget — over in the Senate, the PROVE IT Act has already been passed by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee with bipartisan support. With this week’s House introduction and significant cosponsor list, the PROVE IT Act continues to advance.
Need a refresher on PROVE IT? If you want to review the details of the PROVE IT Act to see what all the fuss is about, visit this training on CCL Community
Finally, are you looking for a quick, easy, and meaningful climate action with CCL? How about emailing your representatives about Permitting Reform? Click here to both learn more and then take action to move the political needle!
